Californication
It is June 1st 2014. Two days ago our little family has moved to Palo Alto, California. I am going to attend Stanford University and hopefully finish my PhD about collaborative economy - what a wonderful place to write about this fascinating topic! I am excited and very happy. Yesterday I was daydreaming while crossing University Ave in Palo Alto with two heavy grocery bags. At the same time as I was thinking to myself: Oh I feel like a Californian girl, my foot slid off the pavement and I landed on my knees and fell off to my side. I guess I am not used to falling down as I did not even realize what has just happened. A passerby rushed to help me up. I said: Thank you, and thought to myself: What a reality check! My jeans were broken. Luckily broken jeans are the trend of this season. I love my new life.

New beginning
New year, new beginning! It is time to start writing again - about my life, my thoughts and ideas, my travels and adventures, books I read and movies I watch, about my reflections on what us going on in country I live in and the world.
Now in the plane going to London, later switching to the plane going to Johannesburg. Exciting!

Somehow this blog doesn't seem to progress... not because i have nothing to say or write about, to the contrary... I've been making some remarks on China, and I promised myself to put them up once they are in a more or less readable form.
Many things have happened since my last and only post here. The major step has been a decision to move back to Finland for some time. There are many reasons for that, both personal and professional... But now it is time to be here :)

Pollution in Shenzhen
Pollution in Shenzhen that is located at the South China Sea is considered to be moderate. At least, in comparison to the inland areas of China.
But sometimes it gets worse. This is the view from our 28th floor balcony in the Futian District of Shenzhen - on a bright day and on a "not so bright" day.
I must admit I haven't experienced anything similar yet, despite I have lived in a city with population of 5 million for many years.
Sometimes one has a feeling that there is literally no oxygen in the air. I wonder how does it feel in the inland of China?
So how bad should it get before something starts changing? I mean, how deep should be the damage for environment and health of ordinary citizens before environmental standards are effectively implemented?
